The Young Spring Netball competition commenced on Monday, October 13, throughout the afternoon at the Young and District Netball Association. Rachel Douglass of the Netball Association told the Young News about the competition.
“The spring competition’s a bit more casual, maybe a little bit more social. People are always competitive, but it’s more on the fun side, and it’s our last comp for the year,” she said. “Registrations aren’t looking too bad. We should have six teams for seniors. I believe we’ll do all right, and regardless of numbers, will keep going and work it out on a week-by-week basis.
“The competition has been going on forever. Every now and then, we change it up a bit, but this is our last competition for this year because next year we go into 2026, and we celebrate 50 years of Young Netball.
“The seniors put in their teams, it’s mixed and ladies all together because it’s a bit of fun and to get everybody out there. “Registrations normally close, but we’ll keep them open. Potentially, we could have one spot left or a couple of spots left in the seniors, team-wise, but if anybody wants a team to play in, by all means, there’s always somebody chasing a player. Then, for our little people, like Net Set Go, our juniors, and our Inters are pretty much open for the next 2-4 weeks, while people are considering it.
“Overall, I believe we are going pretty well. We are in a rebuilding phase. Numbers have been consistent. We’ve had our representative carnival, which is always amazing. We’re about to have our Cherry Festival carnival in a couple of weeks. That’ll be good. It’s always good. Our representative season wasn’t too bad, and we’re hoping to grow more for that next year. We’ve got our representative trials final selection day on 26 October.”
