Robyn Hampton of Harden suggested that the Times contact Pat Miller of Young to find out more about her involvement with Wrap With Love Inc.
Pat told told the Times that she started about 15 years ago.
“There was a lady here doing Wrap With Love and she passed away, so I took it on.
“We meet every Wednesday at the Young Services Club from 10am to 12 noon. You can come early and we stay for lunch. Sometimes we finish about 3pm.
“We crotchet squares ten inches by ten inches or you can knit ten inches by ten inches and there’s a lady that sews them up if you can’t sew them up.
“They come back from her as beautiful rugs and they are lovely. It doesn’t matter what colours you have or anything, she can always put them together.
“We have about 15 in the group and there’s four that do it at home.
“There’s also a lady at Jugiong that does squares and sends them over to me.
“We were donating them to the Oncology Unit at the Young Hospital, and when COVID came, they weren’t allowed to take them. Later on, we gave a few rugs, but they haven’t rung me since.
“The rugs have also been given to Mount St. Joseph’s and Mercy Care.
“There is also a lady that makes teddy bears for us. We do different things.
“The lady that sews the rugs up also makes little jackets for kids and that is when we have a little stall at the Club in the winter.
The Wrap With Love group makes all the different things and it’s up to them what they give to their own community and other things get sent to Sydney and they get distributed throughout Australia and overseas.
“To get them to Sydney I have a friend in transport and he takes them from here to Sydney depot and I ring another man that is in Wrap With Love and he goes out and picks them up and it doesn’t cost us anything.
“If people wish to give donations of wool they can drop it at the club. We accept both acrylic or pure, as long as it is 8 ply.
“I’ve been doing it a long time. We started up at JD’s Jam Factory and that hasn’t been open for a long time.
“We are very lucky because we have had a lot of support with the wool.
“If group members buy the wool themselves, I reimburse them, because we pay $2 every Wednesday into the kitty. Then a lot of people don’t want the money, so we have a lunch.
