On Saturday, August 22, the Young Lions Club are hosting “Butterflies of Hope”, an afternoon tea to raise funds for the Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation at Saint John’s Anglican Church from 2:00 pm.
This is the 4th year of the event that aims to raise funds to find a cure through funded research. There will be delicious food, a guest speaker, raffle prizes galore, with 1st prize being a handmade quilt, 12″ squares made and lovingly donated by many quilters in the community and put together by some of the Lions Club of Young members, with quilting donated by Ian Stewart.
It will be $25 per person.
President of the Young Lions Club, Lyn Freudenstein, said funds from the event will go straight into research.
“We have a wonderful speaker in Annette St Clair. Annette lost a daughter to melanoma at the age of 23. She started a trust for her daughter, known as the Amy St Clair Melanoma Trust,” she said.
“It’s been a success every year. We send about $2,000 every year to the Australian Lions Childhood Research Foundation. None of it goes to administration. It goes straight into research.
“It’s a foundation that we support every year. The Lions Club motto is that we serve. We were doing more and more in serving, like testing children’s eyesight with the Lions Eye Health Program.
“There’ll be a beautiful afternoon tea if you want to come. A beautiful afternoon tea will be served, and there’ll be a raffle.
“We had a number of quilters in the community knit squares, and we put them together into a nice quilt. That was a highlight of our quilt show in May. Annette St. Clair will be there to speak about her experiences with her daughter and her new foundation.
“The foundation is very worthwhile. I’d love people to come because the work they’re doing in the foundation towards research is very important to little children suffering this terrible disease.”
Over the past 15 years, the Australian Lions Club have raised more than 14 million to support groundbreaking research into childhood cancer.
