The Yabbies went out to take on the old foe, Boorowa Rugby Club, under the Friday night lights last week, where they failed to beat last year’s premiers 24 – 7.
Vice Captain, Andrew Rice, said, “Boorowa outplayed us for the first 20 minutes of the game, and they got three quick tries in, so we were down a significant margin.
“Boorowa were just a better team than us on the day. We managed to show a bit of heart and fight in the second half, but Boorowa got in another try. We managed to score a try in the 81st minute, making the final score 24-7.
“It was just not our day. Credit to Boorowa, they are the defending champions for a reason.
“We are working on keeping the ball in hand, don’t try the miracle chip and chase when we do get possession. Our ruck work still needs to be fixed. Our lineouts were dreadful, which we will be addressing, as it has been a consistent problem for us, but we will be looking into that this week.
“The man of the match was our captain, Beau O’Connor. The player’s player was Edward Goldman.
“This weekend we have got Coota at Coota.
“We are going to be missing a few players due to work commitments, but we’re excited to get the job done down in Coota. It’s always good to get a win down there, and the boys are tracking well and getting excited for the next challenge.”
The Yabbettes were more successful, beating Boorowa 39-7, who managed to sneak away with some late-game tries.
Yabbies and Yabbettes will play Coota on Saturday.
