The Temora Dragons beat the Young Cherrypickers on Saturday with 36 – 22 at Nixon Park in Temora. Now the Cherries look to take on Junee.
President, Andrew Smith, said, “I think we were simply out-enthused by Temora. They were coming off the back of a disappointing loss to Coota, and they had a point to prove, and they certainly came out to prove it.”
“We weren’t at our best. We were missing a couple of middles, but in saying that, too, we were just outplayed on the weekend.”
Andrew says it falls down to mental attitude for the next game.
“Some of the guys tired a bit quickly, so a bit more fitness and stick to our structures and our game plans. Then we sort of went away from that a bit. The coaches are there for a reason to identify that stuff, but it’s up to the team to stick by it,” he said.
Their sights are now set on competing against Junee on Saturday.
“Junee had a pretty good win in the first round. They’ve signed well. It was probably not really a shock, but I did expect them to get over Cootamundra, so they’re going to be similar to Temora; they are going to come out with a bit of disappointment from the week before and look to prove a point. But we’ll have a couple of blokes coming back as well, which will be good,” said Andrew.
“It will certainly be no easy game.
“It is going to be a home game, so we are looking forward to seeing the community come out to support the Cherries. We are hoping we get all the fans and that up to the Oval to support us and, hopefully, get us towards a victory.”
