At 5.45am, Young residents and visitors awoke and quietly attended the local dawn service at the Memorial Town Hall before visiting the old cemetery and lawn cemetery, followed by breakfast at the Young Services club.
A march from Town Hall to Anderson Park at 10.40am began the main ANZAC Day service for the community at 11.00am.
Local resident and Group Captain, Emily Cameron, conducted the address with prayers conducted by army chaplain LTCOL Mathew Stuart.
GPC Cameron grew up on a family farm near Young before joining the Defence Force in 1991 after securing a scholarship to the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA).
Graduating in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science, GPC Cameron proceeded to undertake administration roles, support roles and operation roles before being deployed to East Timor where she was awarded an OP GOLD medallion for her work in assisting the Combined Task Group in supporting the Sydney Olympics.
By 2002, GPC Cameron was posted on promotion to Squadron Leader before being deployed as the Commander of the Combat Support Element to the Middle East Area of Operations (MEAO).
Since then, GPC Cameron went on to graduate with a Masters in Defence Studies from the Kings College in London after being selected for UK Joint Services Command College.
She left the Air Force for a position in Defence Industry in 2016, but returned for full-time service in 2023 as Officer-In-Charge at the RAAF Museum at RAAF Base Point Cook.
As of last year, GPC Cameron was promoted to her current rank and was appointed to the role of Director Employment Review within Military Personnel Branch in support of ADF Career Management.
GPC Cameron’s commitment to her country and community made her the perfect addressee for the Young ANZAC Day Service as she spoke of commitment and courage.
