Residents across the Cootamundra electorate are encouraged to come together this ANZAC Day to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served, and to show their support for Australia’s veterans and current service personnel.
This year marks 111 years since Australian and New Zealand troops landed at
Gallipoli, an event that helped shape our national identity and enduring values.
Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, said ANZAC Day holds deep significance for communities across the region.
“Across the Cootamundra electorate, service to the defence force is deeply rooted in our local history and is reflected in memorials, honour rolls, and the memories shared by families,” Ms Cooke said.
“ANZAC Day is a solemn occasion that gives us an important opportunity to recognise and support those who have served and continue to serve our nation.”
“The ANZAC spirit is defined by courage, mateship and endurance, and these values continue to resonate not only in times of conflict, but also in the way we support one another in our communities.”
Ms Cooke encouraged residents to attend local dawn services, marches, and commemorations being held in most towns and villages across the electorate.
“Whether attending a dawn service, joining a local march, or pausing for a moment of reflection, every act of remembrance helps ensure the legacy of our veterans is never forgotten,” Ms Cooke said.
“It is also an important time to check in on and support the veterans in our communities, recognising their ongoing contribution and sacrifice.”
