Ability Network is proud to celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2026 – marking three decades of continuous service, growth, and community commitment to people living with disability across the Cowra region.
Established in 1996 as Cowra Special Needs and Cowra Early Intervention, the two community-led groups merged in 2003 to strengthen local disability services. In 2021, the organisation adopted the
name Ability Network to reflect its expanded scope and inclusive vision.
In 2025, a further merger with Little Wren Co. brought new capabilities and programs, reinforcing its status as a comprehensive, community-focused service provider.
Today, Ability Network supports over 170 clients and employs more than 75 local staff, making it one of Cowra’s largest employers. As one of the few non-profit organisations in the region offering a full suite of disability supports – including support coordination, respite, supported independent living, vocational training, social enterprise programs, day and community supports, and personal care – Ability Network continues to play a vital role in shaping inclusion and opportunity for people with disabilities.
At the heart of the organisation’s operations is its site at 66 Lyall Street, Cowra – home to the region’s most modern and spacious day program facility. The development of this site was funded
entirely by the organisation’s volunteer board over a ten-year period, without reliance on government grants. The premises also include a dedicated group and respite home, offering comfortable, flexible accommodation options for participants. Looking ahead, Ability Network plans to enhance parking for its growing fleet and staff and to develop independent living units for people requiring lower levels of support.
To mark the milestone, Ability Network will host three special nights at the Cowra Civic Centre featuring the acclaimed Australian film I Swear. The film tells the powerful story of a young woman navigating life with disability in regional Australia, reflecting themes of strength,
independence, and community support – values at the heart of Ability Network’s
mission. Viewing nights will be 20, 21 and 28 April 2026.

Board Chair Ruth Fagan said the 30-year celebration is both a tribute to the organisation’s founders and a reaffirmation of its ongoing purpose.
“From our beginnings as two small volunteer-driven initiatives to one of Cowra’s largest employers and service providers, this milestone belongs to the community that built and sustained us. We’re incredibly proud of our clients, staff, and supporters who make Ability Network what it is today.”
The organisation invites the community to join the celebration – by attending the I Swear screenings, visiting Ability Network’s facilities, making a donation or bequest, or by supporting the Ability Network Canteen at the Cowra Saleyards each Wednesday.
