Locals looking to refresh their wardrobes without breaking the bank or harming the planet will have a new reason to visit Wombat on June 7.
A pre-loved clothing sale will run alongside the popular Wombat Swap Meet at the local oval, offering clothes, shoes, handbags, and accessories from 8am to 2pm.
Organiser and manager of the Wombat Cottage Cathy Olofsen says the event is all about giving clothes a second life and encouraging sustainability.
“A lot of us have wardrobes full of clothes we don’t wear anymore,” she said. “Instead of going out and buying new things, this is a great opportunity to clean out your wardrobe and give those items a new home.”
For just $10, anyone can book a stall and sell their unwanted fashion items.
All are welcome to attend, and Cathy hopes to see a mix of locals and visitors browsing the racks. “It’s not just for the ladies, everyone is welcome,” she added.
“It’s a great chance for people to come together, have a chat, and maybe grab a bargain or two.”
The idea builds on the success of the Wombat Car Boot Sale held in March at Wombat Cottage and Wombat’s 2nd. That event drew 20 stalls and plenty of treasure hunters, with goods ranging from books and antiques to clothes and bric-a-brac. It was a fun-filled day that helped raise funds for the Wombat Hotel Social Group, which supports local charities. “This clothing sale is kind of a follow on from that,” Cathy explained.
“The car boot sale went really well, and we wanted to keep that momentum going.”
She also noted that the timing is perfect: “A lot of ladies get quite bored while the blokes are out looking at rusty tools and car parts at the swap meet, so this gives them something else to enjoy.” Funds raised from stall fees at the June 7 event will again go toward helping the Wombat community, particularly through the Wombat Hotel Social Group, which has been limited in its fundraising efforts since the hotel closed.
