The Henry Lawson Festival of the Arts returns to Grenfell this June Long Weekend, from Thursday, June 5 to Monday, June 9, 2025. Now in its 66th year, the festival stands as one of New South Wales’ longest-running arts festivals, paying tribute to the literary legacy of Australia’s iconic poet, Henry Lawson. The 2025 edition promises to be a vibrant celebration of creativity, culture, and community spirit.
The festival’s program is packed with diverse events catering to all ages and interests. A standout feature is the Friday Night Concert on June 6 at the Grenfell Showground Pavilion. The Elk Mountain Band will headline the event, delivering a high-energy performance that blends country and rock influences. The evening will also feature the Bioluminescence Show, an immersive light display that adds a magical touch to the night. Tickets are priced at $10, with family passes available for $20. Camping options are offered at $20 for unpowered sites and $25 for powered sites, with a courtesy bus available for attendees.
On Saturday, June 7, the streets of Grenfell will come alive with the Street Parade & Party. The theme for this year’s parade is “Kindness is Your Superpower,” inspired by Lawson’s poem “The World is Full of Kindness.” The parade will feature vibrant floats, local performers, and community groups, embodying the spirit of kindness and unity.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy a variety of competitions, including the Art Prize, Short Story & Verse Competitions, and the Window Dressing Competition.
The theme for the 2025 competitions is “The World is Full of Kindness,” encouraging participants to explore themes of compassion and community through their creative works.
The festival’s market stalls will be a highlight for visitors looking to experience local craftsmanship and cuisine.
Stallholders will offer a diverse range of products, from handmade crafts to unique artworks. Food stalls will provide a tempting array of treats, including chocolate, donuts, and hearty hamburgers, ensuring there’s something to satisfy every palate. Stall trading will take place on Saturday, June 7, from 9 am to 4 pm, and on Sunday, June 8, from 8 am to 3 pm.
The 2025 festival places a strong emphasis on nurturing young artists and performers. An all-new busking competition will feature both youth and open categories, providing a platform for emerging talent to showcase their skills.
Additionally, the Bioluminescence Project offers participants the opportunity to engage in hands-on creative experiences, contributing to the festival’s immersive atmosphere.
