A beloved community event is making a come-back this school holiday as the Hilltops Community Hub invites families to join in on a fun filled morning of stories, songs, and activities.
After a break due to COVID 19, Storytime for young children will be held once again, this time at the Marie McCormick Centre in Boorowa on Wednesday, 16th April.
Naomi Peters, Manager of the Hilltops Community Hub, shared her excitement about the return of the event.
“Storytime hasn’t been done for a while, probably pre-Covid,” she said. “We thought it would be a great idea to throw one in during the school holidays. We have an abundance of books we want to give away, and we really want to foster literacy in our little people.”
The event, which is free of charge, will run for about an hour, starting at 10 am.

Peters explained that the morning will include reading some fun stories, along with singing and dancing to classic nursery rhymes.
“It’s a great way to get the kids involved and have a little bit of fun,” she said.
Following the activities, there will be morning tea provided, giving families a chance to chat and get to know one another. Parents and carers are encouraged to attend and enjoy the morning alongside their children. The event is designed for children aged 0-8 years, and every child in atten-dance will receive a book to take home, courtesy of the Hub.
“The books will be laid out, and the kids can take their time picking one they like,” Peters said. Storytime has been a tradition at the Hilltops Community Hub, though it has not been held in recent years due to space limitations and the impact of COVID-19.
The event used to be held in the park, where it saw great success with up to 30 attendees. This time, the Hub is offering plenty of room at the Marie McCormick Centre, making it easier for families to join in.
Peters is optimistic about a good turnout, with many families in the area looking for activities during the school holidays. “We used to do these every school holidays for many years, so we’re hoping to have a nice turnout this time around,” she said.
