President Janice Ward with Guest Speaker, Mark Kinsela.
The Young Hospital Auxiliary has recently met for another meeting on September 3rd to discuss upcoming events.
The Auxiliary team also received a guest talk from speaker Mark Kinsela, who outlined the importance of ageing well, and the things that can be done to help the process along.
Born and raised in Young, Mark now resides as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Palliative Care Western Australia.
Auxiliary Publicity Officer, Libby Plumley, said Mark discussed the process behind protecting your brain, protecting your strength and balance, and protecting your social connections, as well as ensuring your affairs are in order by establishing a will, having a power of attorney, ensuring power of guardianship arrangements are in place, and having an advanced health care plan.
Members, Ms Plumley said, took note with a “lot of head nodding”.

Facility Manager, Jessica Pavase, took a moment to report on August’s activities, and noted it had been one of the busiest months on record for the hospital.
“A record number of presentations to the Emergency Ward and operating theatre cases had kept staff extremely busy,” Ms Plumley recounted.
“As always, the Auxiliary was delighted to hear of 14 babies being delivered in August.
“The knitting of baby beanies by Auxiliary members and friends continues with great gusto, and babies are assured of leaving Young Hospital with a beautifully hand knitted beanie.”

Arrangements for the upcoming 2026 Open Gardens Day on Sunday, November 1 were discussed as planning continues behind the scenes.
During the open day, five gardens (two country and three town gardens) will be opened to the public to explore.
Entrance fees will range from $20 to access all five gardens, or $5 for each individual garden.
A sandwich lunch, cuppa and slice, morning/afternoon tea will also be available at two of the open gardens. More details will be released in the coming weeks.

Tickets for “Beat the Budget” will also be available to be purchased at the gardens.
Tickets will be available for purchase from the Auxiliary from the local Bunnings on Thursday, October 8.
Prizes ranging from groceries, meat and fuel to assist with tight family budgets will be drawn on the day.
For anyone interested in joining the Young Hospital Auxiliary to assist the local community, Ms Plumley said new members are welcome to attend a meeting to see what they do.
“The Auxiliary meets the first Thursday of each month at 10.30am, followed by a gourmet sandwich lunch, usually at the Young Hospital,” she said.
