The Yabbies’ finals season may be over before it has even begun after a 38 – 6 loss to the Coota Tri-Colours at home on Saturday, meaning every single try matters from this point onwards if Young hope to be premiers.
Nick Duff of the Young Yabbies said it was a disappointing loss.
“Coota were by far the better team. We had a lot of defensive lapses and couldn’t find our footing. We couldn’t get tackles to stick, which was really disappointing. We missed a lot of tackles. They just made too many metres up the field, which is probably really what made us come unstuck,” he said.
“We didn’t pounce on opportunities where we should have. They were making too many metres up the middle of the field, which would be the main takeaway.
“There’s still a slim chance. We need to get double bonus points, which means we need a win and then also get four tries and not lose by more than seven points. It’s very slim, but, yeah, certainly there is still a chance.
“We certainly won’t change anything, because what we’ve been doing to a degree has been working, but it has also been a bit of a rebuild season with a lot of new faces and a new coach. While some results haven’t been where we wanted them to be, it’s certainly been a really pleasing and great season for us overall.
“It will be another hard one this week; West Wyalong are always great. They always put up a really good fight. They’re similar to us, having had their scores on the board not be what they would have probably liked or envisaged. They’ll be ready to put up a fight for sure.”
The Yabbies play West Wyalong at West Wyalong on Saturday from 3:15 pm.
