On Saturday 18th April, the Young and District Netball Association held a Mario Galaxy movie fundraiser for their representative teams from 1:15 pm at Southern Cross Cinema.
The day was filled with fun and laughs, but aimed to help the Club support their representative sides who are going off to play in various competitions.
Not just a movie, there were also games and prizes for those who came.
Rachel Douglas of the Young Netball Club said it went really well.
“We got some good numbers, and the people who came enjoyed it. It was greatly appreciated, and the movie was pretty nifty,” she said.
“The little people, they loved it. Parents also loved it, but the kids really enjoyed it.
“We are fundraising at present for our representative teams; our open men’s and women’s team, our 17s and our 12s. We also have an 11s, but they don’t go to state until they hit 12 years old.
“Everything is going pretty well for the Netball Club. This year, we are back on target. We do have five teams. We’ve got the 11s development, a 12’s, 17’s and an open men’s and women’s representative side; first time for a men’s team, which is amazing, and yes, they’re all aiming to get to state.
The seniors (the 17’s and your opens) will go on the June long weekend, and then our 12s will go the first weekend of the winter school holidays to play.
“We are celebrating 50 years this year as well, and that will be on the 7th of November.
“If anybody is interested in joining our general competition, it starts on the 4th of May, so registrations are still open. If you’d like to register a team, that’s amazing. If you would like to register as an individual and be placed in a team, we can manage that as well. It starts on the 4th of May for everybody. That’s for our Woolworths Net Set Go, our juniors, Inters and our senior division.
“We’ve got a big year ahead. It’s looking good. We’ve still got a couple of carnivals to go to for our representative teams before we head to state, but also to our local competition, which starts on 4th May. Just get on board. It’s going to be a great year, and just get in there and give it a go. No experience is necessary.
“It’s just a bit of fun making friends and learning the game.”
The Young Netball Club also ran a Bunnings sausage sizzle on the same day, which also proved to be successful, owing to the Young Community for their generous support.
