Young is hosting the Cauliflower Cup on April 17 and 18 over a packed weekend for the Young Yabbies and their supporters.
On the Friday afternoon prior (April 17), a nine-hole ambrose will kick off the weekend before ex-Wallabies players will host a kids coaching clinic.
The Yabbies will take on the Harden Red Devils, before the Old Boys take on the Cauliflower Club. After the footy is over, they will head to the Young Services Club for a gala dinner.
Nick Duff, President of the Yabbies, said it was a massive event for Young.
“The Cauliflower Club only do two or three games a year, so to be able to hold one in our town is certainly significant,” he said.
“We will take on the Cauliflower Club players and any Old Boys or any community members or Yabbies in the community that would like to take part in [the nine-hole ambrose on Friday], and then go to the Australian Hotel for dinner and drinks.
“On Saturday morning, there’s the junior coaching course run by the Cauliflower Club for a few hours at Cranfield Oval before the men and women both take on Harden in round two of rugby and then the main event.”
After this, Nick said they will head out for dinner and drinks at a gala dinner at the Services Club to auction off Old Boys’ jerseys.
Featuring a live band, he said it’ll be a busy but fulfilling weekend.
“They’re bringing approximately 30 to 40 people along with some of their families as well. It’s great for the community,” he said.
“They’re all staying locally. They’re going to eat and drink locally. I certainly know that they’ve booked different locations over the weekend locally, so in terms of them splashing some cash around the community, it’ll be excellent.”
Everyone, he said, is now chewing at the bit to start the season.
“We’ve had a great pre-season, got new coaches, both men and women, and things are ticking along really well,” he said.
“We encourage anyone, it’s never too late, to come down and have a run and join the club.
