Hilltops Regional Theatre Company are showing a “true blue” Aussie comedy play at Ballinaclash on March 13, 14, and 20, with an additional show at Murringo Hall on the 21st at 7:30 pm for all.
Carmen Thackeray of the play said that they wanted to do something for the Hilltops Off the Beaten Track Trail.
“We are coming off the back of Legally Blonde last year, and we decided to do a play this time.
“This one is really fun. It’s an Aussie comedy play, so there’s lots of Aussie humour in it, and it sold itself as being set in an old hall. We thought we would look for a location that suited the place.
“We were able to do Ballinaclash for three of our shows, and then we contacted Murringo because their hall is so great, and they love having us now and then out there. Those two venues are just perfect for what we’re doing with this play.
“We’re selling tickets like hotcakes.
“The dress code is for Cowboy, and it is for a bit of fun. We just thought, well, why not? Let’s get in the mood. If you’re going to bring your own food and have a few drinks, then you may as well dress up and join in the fun.
“We gauge interest amongst the theatre company, and this was also an opportunity. We wanted something that, a lot of people, when they want to have a crack at it for the first time, just want something that’s easy, maybe just a small thing, for a bit of fun, not too much pressure.
“There are a lot of people who don’t like to sing, so that’s another reason why we chose a play, so that we could get some newbies who don’t particularly want to sing, like they would have to in a musical. We just cast it.
“This is our director’s first time actually directing. She’s been in heaps and heaps of things over the years, but has never directed, so this is kind of a bucket list ticking thing for her. Then we’ve booked in rehearsals and got cracking with it.
“We encourage anybody to come and check it out. It’s just a good, fun night out. That’s all we are trying to promote. If you want to come along and have a few laughs, and dress in your best cowboy outfit or not, it’s just about putting something on for the community that’s fun and just a nice social outing.
“Tickets for the Ballinaclash venue are through Tribooking and Terry Brothers Furniture and Bedding. The Murringo venue is organised through Gina, so she is taking all the bookings for that.”
