Men’s Championships – Growing Participation Together
The Men’s Championships are one of the premier events on the golf calendar. They represent tradition, challenge and achievement.
This year, the Committee is asking members to consider an important question: Should they introduce a Stableford Championship grade, played off the White or Red tees (player’s choice), alongside the traditional Blue Tee Stroke Championship?
While the Stroke Championship will remain unchanged, the committee recognise that some members choose not to participate due to the format or tee requirements.
The goal is simple:
To encourage more members to be involved during Championship time.
More players on the course means:
• Greater club engagement
• Stronger Championship atmosphere
• Increased support for sponsors
• A more inclusive club culture
This proposal does not replace or dilute the Stroke Championship.
It simply provides an additional pathway for members who would otherwise sit out the event.
Last year, a Seniors Championship was trialled, but participation was limited. Rather than applying an age restriction, this proposal focuses on the playing format instead of age, opening the opportunity to all members who prefer not to play Stroke from the Blue tees.
The Championships commence on 7th March, and the Club would value your input.

The Member Feedback questions are:
Would you personally support a Stableford Championship (red/white tees only) by participating in it?
YES / NO
Do you know members who would play in a Stableford Championship but would not play in the Blue Tee Stroke event?
YES / NO
If yes, please encourage them to provide feedback.
If introduced, how many rounds should it be played over?
Option 1 – 2 Days (either 2 Saturdays or 2 Sundays)
Option 2 – 3 Days (e.g. 2 Saturdays and final Sunday – Presentation Day)
Option 3 – All 4 Days
Draft Playing Conditions – Stableford Championship
If adopted, the proposed structure would be:
• Open to members electing not to compete in the Blue Tee Stroke Championship
• Played off White or Red tees (player’s choice)
• Nett Stableford format
• Played over 2–4 rounds (TBC based on feedback)
• Overall Winner and Runner-Up awarded (subject to numbers)
• Separate from the Stroke Championship (no switching between events)
• Not eligible for the Monthly Medal stroke event during the Championship period
The Championships will always honour tradition.
This proposal simply aims to ensure that more members feel part of Championship time at the club.
They encourage all members to share their views so the Committee can make an informed decision.
