On Sunday, the 151st Mad Harry’s Steel Show at the Showground was another success for the Show Society, which gave the community epic attractions, amazing showcases, and a beautiful fireworks show to end it all.
The pavilions were full, the program was stacked, and the food on offer was delicious.
Emma Godsell, President of the Show Society, said it went really well and gave a huge thank you to everyone involved, adding that even just coming through the gates helped them immensely.
“Our committee just blew me out of the water this year with their efforts and just the way that they run the show, run their sections so well. They were all actually able to enjoy the show this year, which is what we want. We want the community to enjoy it as well as our committee. They put on such a great show, and everyone who attended helped us out as well, which made it a great show for everyone,” she said.
“Our yard dog trials were popular; that was the first time we’ve had yard dogs at the Young show in over 10 years. “We had our magic crane escape, which got the kids all very excited.
“Our cattle show is always big. We had 30 head of cattle and 40 kids participate in that.
“Our pavilion was full of artworks and creations. That’s always been popular.
“There was something for everyone. We had a motorbike show, there was face painting, and an animal nursery. They always say there’s something for everyone, but we mean it. There was something there for everyone to do.
“Our pavilion entries were about the same. Some sections were down, some sections were up, but our school art is always really fun to look at. “We invite all the schools in and around Young to put in a sheet of artwork. “We don’t have a theme, and we like the classes to show us what they’ve been learning, and this year, they just upped it to another level.
“They were incredible across the board this year. So the competition was very tough. “Hats off to the teachers who did that because they were unreal. “There were 60 school sheets this year. It’s 60 classes, whether it be primary school, a small school, or a daycare centre.
“Our Young Woman of the Year was Edwina Kelly, and our junior winner was Gabrielle Kemp. Our rural ambassador was Jake Davis.
“Ashleigh Carberry was our second Young woman entrant for our junior division, and she did a fantastic job as well. “Ash was a part of our junior competition with Gabby.
“The growth in those two girls over the two weeks from when they had their interviews and their judging evening to the weekend of the show was incredible. They all helped us out on Saturday, setting up. It was amazing, which is what the program is all about.”
The Young Show looks to blow it out of the park for their 152nd next year.
