Mental Health Month in the Hilltops region will kick off with a vibrant and meaningful community event: Rock for Recovery. Set for Sunday, 26 October at Carrington Park from 10 am to 3 pm, this event aims to raise awareness, foster connection, and celebrate recovery in a festival-like atmosphere.
Following last year’s hugely successful inaugural event, which drew hundreds of participants and featured live music, a motor show, guest speakers, and family entertainment, the team at Flourish Australia is eager to build on that momentum.

This year’s highlights include Battle of the Bands: Musicians of all stripes are encouraged to compete for prize money $500 for first place, $250 for second, and $100 for third. Amateur and seasoned performers alike are invited to show their talent and support mental health.
Guest Speakers and Lived Experience: Community voices will share personal journeys, alongside appearances by our Mayor, Member for Cootamundra, and an ‘RUOK’ ambassador, offering inspiration and real-life insight into mental health and recovery.
Service Stalls: Local organisations, including Flourish Australia, the Hilltops Community Hub, Wellways, Pacific Health, and the Crisis Centre, will be on hand to share information and support. A refurbished bench seat kindly donated by the Men’s Shed will be available via raffle.

Family-Friendly Activities: Designed to be inclusive and inviting, the event offers a relaxed environment for families to enjoy good company and entertainment, all while promoting open conversation on mental health.
Organiser Donna McGuire of Flourish Australia explains the message behind the event:
“Mental health affects everyone at some point in their lives. Rock for Recovery is about raising awareness and reducing stigma, letting people know they’re not alone and that help is available.”

These words echo last year’s community spirit, where optimism, dance, music, and heartfelt stories came together to remind everyone that reaching out is a sign of strength.
The funds raised through prize sponsorships, raffle sales, and community donations will directly benefit local support services.
This includes providing essentials like swags, blankets, cooking equipment, and everyday items for people facing homelessness, ensuring they have the basics in place as they find their path to stability.

Music, support, awareness, and care, Rock for Recovery offers it all. Performing artists, service providers, and families are invited to join in solidarity for a cause that matters, all while enjoying a day rich in connection, purpose, and hope. Keep an eye on local listings for registration details and how to get involved.
Rock for Recovery is more than a public event; it’s a reminder that recovery thrives where music, community, and compassion come together.
