If you’re looking to try one of Australia’s fastest-growing sports, now’s your chance.
Pickleball, a fun and social game that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, is now played weekly at the local PCYC on the indoor courts.
Sonya Yates, PCYC Manager, said the sport is quickly gaining momentum in the region. “We’ve got about 40 pickleball players on our books,” she said. “Not all of them come every week, but there’s a strong and growing core group who play regularly. We generally run from 9:30 to 11:30 every Friday morning.”
Due to increasing interest, the PCYC has recently introduced a Thursday evening session from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, which is steadily picking up in popularity, especially among those who are unable to attend during the day due to work commitments.

Pickleball is played on a smaller court than tennis, using paddles instead of rackets and a plastic ball with holes. It’s easy to learn, fun to play, and suited to all fitness levels.
“It’s a game for all ages,” Yates explained. “We’ve had players as young as five and others well into their 80s. One of the reasons it’s so appealing is that it’s gentler on the joints than tennis. A lot of retirees prefer it for that reason, it’s low impact but still gets you moving.” Pickleball is experiencing a surge in popularity across Australia, with many PCYCs, including Wagga Wagga, reporting strong participation numbers. Local clubs are seeing the benefits of offering inclusive and accessible sports like pickleball.
Whether you’re looking to stay active, meet new people, or try something different, pickleball at the PCYC might just be the perfect fit.
