The Hilltops Community Hub is continuing its mission to support carers and strengthen community ties with two up-coming events aimed at connection, well-being, and support.
Following the success of February’s Carers BBQ at Carrington Park, the Hub will now host a Carers Morning Tea on Thursday, August 28, at 2C Campbell Street, right across from the high school. Organised by the Hub’s team, this free event invites anyone in a caring role, whether full-time, part-time, or informal, to come together for a relaxed morning of conversation, support, and connection.
Naomi Peters, manager of Hilltops Community Hub, said the event is about recognising the often-overlooked work of carers in the community.
“We want carers to know they’re valued and not alone,” she said. “This morning tea is a small way to say thank you, while also offering a space for people to meet others who truly understand what they’re going through,” Peters noted that the atmosphere will be friendly and low-key, with plenty of time to chat over a cuppa.
“It’s not about formalities, it’s about giving people the chance to talk, laugh, and just breathe for a while,” she said. “Sometimes the most important support comes from someone who simply gets it.”
In addition to the Carers Morning Tea, the Hub is continuing its monthly Community Morning Teas, held on the last Tuesday of every month at the same Campbell Street location. These gatherings are open to everyone in the region, regardless of age or background. “Last year’s teas were small but meaningful,” Peters explained. “People left feeling lighter, just from having a chat and making new friends. We’d love to see more faces this year.” “This gathering is free, welcoming, and all about connection,” Peters said. “Whether you’re a carer looking for support, or just someone wanting a bit more social interac-tion, the door is open.”
