After months of preparation and excitement, Stars of Young: Dance for Cancer 2025 dazzled audiences on Saturday, June 21, delivering an unforgettable night of dancing, inspiration, and community spirit all for a vital cause.
Despite a last-minute change that saw the originally planned two-night event scaled back to just one, Stars of Young surpassed all expectations, raising a phenomenal $130,340.15 for the Cancer Council.
Organisers had set a revised target of $80,000 after cancelling the Friday night show, but the community rallied in full force to smash that goal.
“We’re absolutely blown away,” said event organiser Meagan Vearing, who spearheaded the return of the much-loved fundraiser after a three-year hiatus.

“To think we could exceed $130,000 with just one show is beyond anything we imagined. The support from the community was overwhelming from our dancers and sponsors to the audience who came ready to celebrate and give generously.”
Held at the Young Services Club, the event was completely sold out, with 580 guests dressed in their best to match this year’s “Winter Wonderland” theme. The evening featured choreographed routines by a cast of local stars paired with professional dance teachers, along with a two-course dinner, raffles, auctions, and plenty of cheering from the crowd.
Among the night’s biggest winners were: Best Dressed: Corey McNair, whose sparkling ensemble matched the night’s wintry elegance. Highest Fundraiser: 1st Place: Chris Duff, who raised a staggering $43,299.30. 2nd Place: Meg and Xavier, with $21,433.00 3rd Place: $12,811.00 Judges’ Award: Maria Zirkee, who delivered a moving pole dance performance to Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor.” A breast cancer survivor herself, Maria’s strength and courage lit up the stage and earned her not just the judges’ acclaim, but a standing ovation from the crowd.
“Maria was incredible,” said Meagan. “She didn’t just dance she told her story with every move. It was empowering and emotional. That’s what Stars of Young is all about: shining a light on bravery, resilience, and hope.”

The coveted People’s Choice Award, determined by audience vote, went to Meg and Xavier, whose energy and charisma won the hearts of the entire room. Their routine, full of fun and flair, had the crowd on their feet.
Reflecting on the event’s success, Meagan added, “It’s been a long road getting Stars back on the calendar. There were challenges especially with the decision to cut back to one night but the end result was pure magic. You could feel the love and generosity in the room. I think people were just so ready to come together for something meaningful.”
Meagan credited the success not only to the dancers and audience, but also to the behind-the-scenes team, sponsors, and local businesses that donated prizes, time, and services to bring the show to life.

“This event reminds us of the power of community,” she said. “Young really does show up when it counts. Every ticket sold, every dollar donated and every step on that stage helped us take a step closer to a cancer-free future.”
With another successful show behind them, the Stars of Young team is already thinking about the future.
“We’re still buzzing,” Meagan laughed. “But yes, we’re already talking about how to make next year even bigger. The bar has been set high, but this town never fails to rise to the occasion.”
For now, the community can celebrate not only a spectacular night of entertainment but a shared achievement in supporting cancer research, advocacy, and care. One night, one cause, one extraordinary outcome.
