Prop Gabe Brown had a blinder for the Yabbies on Saturday leading from the front.
The Yabbies made a powerful statement on the road last Saturday with a commanding 56-19 victory over Condobolin, capping off a dominant performance in front of a travelling crowd.
The match, played in Condobolin, saw the Yabbies fire on all cylinders from the opening whistle. Ethan Miller got the scoreboard ticking early with the first try, setting the tone for what would become a relentless attacking display.
Player Coach Will Munday praised the team’s focus and execution. “The boys were sharp right from the warm-up. We had a clear game plan and they stuck to it perfectly,” he said.
“To travel three hours on a bus and then play with that kind of intensity it’s a real credit to the group.”
Several Yabbies delivered standout performances, with Miller, Beau O’Connor, and Kai Langfield each crossing the line twice. Further tries from Charlie Sullivan, Harry Nuthall, and Hamish Spackman ensured the score-board kept ticking over.
By halftime, the Yabbies had already built a formidable lead, dominating in key areas including possession, set pieces, and territory.
“Our forwards really laid the platform,” Munday noted. “We controlled the scrums, took clean lineout ball, and just wore them down. It made it a lot easier for our backs to finish the job.”
Condobolin showed resilience in the second half, clawing back a few tries of their own, but it was too little, too late. The Yabbies had already put the result beyond doubt, showing not only attack-ing flair but also strong defensive commitment throughout the match.
Despite the lopsided scoreline, the game was played in great spirits and showcased strong sportsmanship from both sides.
“Credit to Condobolin they never gave up and played the game hard but fair. It was a good, clean con-test and the officials did a great job keeping it consistent,” Munday added.
Liam Stuart was voted Players’ Player by his teammates for his explosive efforts running the ball back, while Gabe Brown was named Man of the Match for his commanding performance in both attack and defence. The ‘old school’ Prop will be difficult to handle in this competition with his relentless play.
The Yabbies now turn their attention to this weekend, where both the Yabbies and Yabbette squads will return to Cranfield Oval to face Grenfell in what promises to be another exciting clash. With momentum on their side and confidence riding high, fans can expect another passionate display from the Yabbies come game day.
