Hilltops Council is excited to announce that the National Cherry Festival has been selected to receive funding from the NSW Government’s Stronger Together Local Council Major Festival program.
According to Council this initiative is part of a $4 million investment aimed at supporting multi-cultural celebrations across the state. The funding will play a key role in enhancing the 75th Anniversary of the National Cherry Festival in Young, allowing Hilltops Council to expand the event’s multicultural offerings while preserving its beloved heritage and traditions.
The event continues to be a major celebration for the region, having stood as a cornerstone for over three-quarters of a century.
The National Cherry Festival attracts thousands of visitors each year to celebrate the region’s iconic cherry harvest and highlight the diverse cultural heritage of the Hilltops community.
Attendees can expect to enjoy performances, food, art, and interactive experiences that celebrate the area’s rich cultural diversity.
Hilltops Council Mayor, Brian Ingram, welcomed the funding, stating: “This funding reflects the NSW Government’s strong commitment to supporting not only our National Cherry Festival but also the cultural richness of our community. As we prepare to mark the 75th Anniversary of this iconic event, we’re thrilled to showcase the multi-cultural aspects that make our region unique.
“The Cherry Festival has always been more than just a celebration of agriculture. It’s about bringing people together from different backgrounds to share in the spirit of community. With this support, we’re excited to make the 75th Anniversary our most inclusive and vibrant celebration yet – honouring both the traditions of our past and our multicultural future.”
Mayor Ingram also expressed his gratitude, saying: “On behalf of Hilltops Council and our entire community, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Minister Steve Kamper and the NSW Government for recognising the cultural importance of our festival and for supporting its continued growth.”
The 75th Anniversary National Cherry Festival will take place in Young from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 December 2025. This year’s program will feature an expanded range of multicultural performances, international food stalls, cultural workshops, and community celebrations, alongside popular traditional festival events such as the cherry pip spitting competition, fireworks, and the street parade.
