Young Filly Sets Record

New Australian record holder highlights Riverina’s and Young’s domination in sales ring.

The Bettors Delight – Yes Eye See filly set a new Australian record when she was sold in the middle of March. For the second year running a Riverina filly has set a new Australian record.

The Bettors Delight – Yes Eye See filly started around $125,000 and went up in increments of $25,000 at the Inglis – Nutrien sales standardbred yearling sale in Sydney.

She was sold for $275,000 beating the previous record from 2023 by $5000. Sold to buyer 51. The auctioneer said, “You’ve got yourself an outstanding filly there.”

Success Stud’s Jackie Gibson was amazed to prepare an Australian record holder. She said, “It’s a huge thrill to be able to do that and it’s not what you go to the sales with in mind. She was a beautiful filly and we knew there was going to be money chasing her just from her pedigree and how she looked, she was a lovely big girl. It was a surprise. I knew she would be expensive, but I just didn’t think she would bring that much.”

The filly comes from a family littered with group one winning talent, including Eye Keep Smiling brought up her 18th win and total prize money of $426,899 across her career and is still only 5 years old.

Gibson believes not offering many fillies from the family helps create interest. “I haven’t let many fillies go out of that family,” she said.

The new record comes after Wagga breeders Scott and Kathy Robertson set an Australian record for their Sweet Lou – Revere Me filly, last year.

Gibson, based between Kingsvale and the Cherry capital of Australia at Young, also sold two colts for $110,000 and $100,000. She said, “We have really good growing country here in the Riverina.” “Our crops are really strong, they have high protein levels in them and the country is really good with all the seasons, we have the drying summers and the wetter winters. “I think it comes from how they are raised and it’s really good for our area.”
