Nathan Lyon Guest Speaker For Cherrypickers

The Young Cherrypickers are gearing up for the 2025 season and are aiming to secure back-to-back premiership victories. To kick off the season, the club will host a special mixed evening function on Friday, April 11, 2025. Nathan Lyon, a local legend and superstar of Australian Test cricket, will be the guest speaker for the event.

With over 550 Test wickets, Lyon holds the third-highest Australian bowling record in history. Born and raised in Young, he is proud to call this community his own, and he’s excited to have the chance to give back to the town that supported him.

The evening event will begin at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start, and the cost per table (for ten people) is $1,800, which includes a two-course meal, drinks, and entertainment. During the event, Nathan will share his journey from playing at Cranfield Oval as a young boy to competing at prestigious venues like Lords and the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Sam Woods is a volunteer organiser and shared that the event has already sold 20 of the 28 available tables, and they expect to sell out quickly. He emphasises that the ideal arrangement is for groups to purchase a full table of ten and organise their guests. The evening promises a great atmosphere, with cricket fans in attendance, as well as mystery prizes and auction items.

“The night will be a lot of fun,” Sam said. “Nathan Lyon will be speaking, so we’re expecting a lot of cricket enthusiasts. We’ve also got some great auction items and mystery prizes on offer.”

He explained how they were able to secure Nathan as the guest speaker: “Nathan is a local guy, and we reached out to him through his contacts and some of his old schoolmates. Despite his busy schedule, he was more than happy to help out, and he’s been a pleasure to work with.”

The event will feature a Q&A session, giving attendees the chance to ask Nathan about his cricket career and upcoming projects. Any funds raised will go toward supporting the Cherrypickers and helping the club maintain financial stability. “With rising costs insurance, uniforms, and just keeping the lights on it’s more important than ever to have fundraising events like this,” Sam explained. “The goal is to help subsidise the players’ costs and cover some of the club’s operating expenses.”

This event is set to be a memorable night, celebrating both the Cherrypickers and one of their own, Nathan Lyon, while also supporting the future of the club. For table bookings, please contact Sam on 0409 335 000.
