The Young Lions showed a dominant performance at the Riverina Cup over the weekend, and the message to the competition is clear “The Lions are the team to beat.” The Lions humiliated the second-seeded Tolland Wolves with a 6-0 Victory on the Wolves’ home field.
The pre-season event was held in Wagga and was a chance for teams to show the strength of their sides. The Lions showed no fear against the wolves with particularly notable performances from Young Clancy Hislop and Mitchell Cameron who scored 4 goals between the pair.
First grade coach Duncan Cameron commented on the astonishing performance. “We controlled the game well and then coming out in the second half we scored three goals in the first ten minutes, which put the game to bed. We started the game off strongly but didn’t score until the 40th minute, Just before half time, New recruit, Ralph Masae was subbed on and set us up two goals”.
After such a performance, the Lions will likely compete in the finals of the Cup sometime at the end of March.
“Of the 15 teams competing at the Cup we look to be one of the stronger sides” Duncan stated.
“We will play this Riverina Cup tournament and we have one more game of that on 8th March and then depending on how we go in that game we may go through to the semi-finals for that competition. The proper competition starts on 5th April.”
The Cup will be moving to an elimination format in the next round, but the team is unphased by the pressure and excited to dominate once again.
